Last week, the Wood County Sheriff’s Facebook page was compromised. In the following hours, posts regarding Jeffrey Epstein were made on the account. As of 2/05/2026, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office made a press release reclaiming control of the account.

In their press release, they claim to “have a local connection with Meta.” The account was compromised for over 24 hours, which is an unacceptable duration for a government organization. Their account is in a position of power and could have resulted in further crime. They currently have detectives on the case, trying to track down the hacker who compromised their page. They have yet to release any information on how it happened or if they are in contact with federal authorities. After their government ransomware hack two years ago, this is a simple slap in the face.
